This Italian herb bread is packed with flavor from fresh herbs and olive oil. It's perfect for sandwiches, toasting, or serving with soups and salads.
Equipment
- Large mixing bowl
- Baking sheet
- Wooden spoon
- Measuring cups and spoons
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped
- 2 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour, salt, olive oil, and herbs. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place on a greased baking sheet.
- Let the loaf rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool before slicing and serving.
Notes
- You can use dried herbs if fresh are not available. Use 1 tbsp dried rosemary and 1 tbsp dried thyme.
- This bread is great for making sandwiches or toasting with a bit of butter.
