Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano (optional)

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Add flour, salt, olive oil, and oregano (if using). Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Divide the dough into 20 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long, thin breadstick.
  • Place the breadsticks on a greased baking sheet and let rise for another 10 minutes.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden and crispy.
  • Let cool before serving.

Notes

  • You can add different herbs and spices to the dough for variety, such as rosemary, garlic powder, or sesame seeds.
  • Serve grissini with dips like hummus, marinara sauce, or pesto.
