Grissini are thin, crispy Italian breadsticks that make a perfect snack or appetizer. They are easy to make and can be flavored with various herbs and spices.
Equipment
- Large mixing bowl
- Baking sheet
- Wooden spoon
- Rolling Pin
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 2 tsp sugar
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 tbsp dried oregano (optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour, salt, olive oil, and oregano (if using). Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Divide the dough into 20 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long, thin breadstick.
- Place the breadsticks on a greased baking sheet and let rise for another 10 minutes.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
- You can add different herbs and spices to the dough for variety, such as rosemary, garlic powder, or sesame seeds.
- Serve grissini with dips like hummus, marinara sauce, or pesto.
